Subject:old wood Japanese?? Foo Dog

I inherited carved wooden Foo Dog. The story is: My Uncle who was a SEABEE in the navy helped with the reconstruction in Japan after the bombing. He was given this Foo Dog by a Budhist Monk for helping with the clean up. I know nothing about it other than this. It has a wooden marble in it mouth and has intricate details carved into it. I would like to know more about this. I cannot get pictures of it at this time. I will try to get some to show upon request.
