Subject:please identify

i wrote earlier requesting help in identifying a
sculpture i have but i couldnt get the photos to be accepted so i have taken other ones.this piece appears to be carved from one piece of something but i am not sure what.it is heavy and has a waxy feel to it but the wax doesnt come off.i have not been able to find anyone who knows its origins so i hope you can help

Dear Karen

It's a Fenghuang with the flowers (peach blossom?).

The craftsmanship + form + presentation are very nice, possibly 20th century, but I can not identify the material, pictures are blur and off focus.

No question about this carving, it is soapstone, and very easy to scratch with a needle.

can you tell me anything else about this piece ? i can not find anything like it nor can i find anyone that can tell me anything. i did go into the fenghuang site that someone suggested and that statue is alot like my sculpture but i cant find any like mine

This looks to be a better than average soapstone carving. I've seen simple soapstone carvings go for $40 and complicated ones go for $600 or so. I'd put this toward the lower end end of the range.
