Subject:Found in Okinawan bunker during WWII

My grandfather sent these two pieces of pottery back during WWII from Okinawa, while he was in the service.
We have a letter that he wrote to my grandmother saying that he found them in a bunker/cave that he had went into. Inside were mummified Japanese soldiers, who appeared to have been playing cards and using the two pieces of pottery for ashtrays.
I don't know a thing about Asian pottery and would appreciate it if someone could give me any idea what they were (planters? bowl?) and what their origin may be and WHEN they are from.
The smaller teal colored one measures about 6 1/2 inches tall and the opening is about 4 inches. The dark blue piece is about 5 inches tall and about 8 1/2 wide. No markings on either. The dark blue is quite heavy.
