Subject:Asian Bowl
Posted By: Christina Thu, Mar 19, 2009 IP: 209.235.103.132

I bought this Asian Bowl several months ago at a resale shop. I really don't know the history behind it. Anyone have any ideas? Or maybe can tell me about the markings?

Thank you!

based upon what i see in the dim lighting, i would estimate this to be a late 20th C. rose medallion bowl.

please consider more knowledgeable responses in connection with mine.

Hi Christina.

This bowl is modern.

It copies the Canton decorated pieces of the 19th Century.

The mark, which is probably a stamp seems to be that of the 18th Century Emperor Qianlong.

Gary.

Dear Christina,

Your Chinese bowl has a decoration what's called "Rose medallion" . This kind of decoration was made from about second quarter 19th. century till........now.

I think your bowl is from second half of the 20th. century. Allmost impossible to read the mark but it could be "Qianlong nian zhi" .... If you want to be sure we need a better picture, I think.

To compare I enclose a picture of a Rose medallion-bowl of Guangxu-periode. Maybe you can see the similarity in style as well as the differences in execution.

best regards,
Arjan
