Subject:Japanese Painting?
Posted By: Adam Pemberton Thu, Apr 23, 2009 IP: 90.209.162.177 Hello. I found this painting yesterday and Im doing some research on it. It is 18 inches, by 9 Inches and appears to be painted on thick paper. It seems to have developed some cracks due to shrinkage perhaps? can anyone tell me where this might be from and what sort of date it could be? Thanks very much.

Posted By: rat Fri, Apr 24, 2009 no, this is a Chinese painting, gouache on "pith paper", probably 19th century, most likely one of a series bound together for export. the ladies are playing "chinese chess"
