Subject:Identifying a Japanese Bronze
Posted By: Jeannine Darretta Sat, May 30, 2009 IP: 67.125.159.199

I would like some help identifying this bronze. Someone translated the mark as dai-mei sentoku. Not sure if its completely accurate.

I think sentoku is correct as "yellow bronze" would account for the color of the vase. I think the composition is quite nice. However, the detailed workmanship seems crude when compared to the skill level of most japanese bronzes. Perhaps it was done by a student.

Any information on period, value or just general identification would be most helpful. Thank you in advance.

A little more information:
This 3-sided vase looks to have been fashioned from a flat piece of material as the seam is visible on the inside. Along with green and white oxidation. Perhaps date is Edo period rather than Meiji as I originally thought.

I've supplied additional photos.
