Subject:is this Swatow 16c. or Swankhalok14th -15th c.??

Greetings to all, I bought this recently, can anyone positively ID this item, and the era it's from. the size is 7" tall and about 7" in diameter, much appreciated. Paul

This is a classic stoneware utility storage jar, could have been used for dry ingredients (grain, flour) or for one of many types of pickles, or whatever.

A well-used household item can show much wear and discoloration and seem much older than it is, compared with 'vase' or other decorative pot.

Yours could have been made in China, either north or southwest. Would guess around the first half 20th century.

Sawankhalok clays fired brown due to high iron content.

Hi Cal,Pyro, thanks for your imput its makes a lot of sense what you have both put in,at least I know the age of it now, I think it has a place to live in my house or garden. it has a interesting patination to me.Paul

Neither. This is a late 19th century to early 20th century storage pot. Widely made and is found in every area where Chinese labors went like the gold fields of California to Australia.
