Subject:What is value of art work.
Posted By: Bob Wolf Fri, Jun 12, 2009 IP: 216.136.115.243

Uncle lived in Hong Kong from 1950's thru 1980's. I have 8 pieces of asian art and a full set or Barbosa (Military Uniform) prints. I would like to get them appraised so I can sell them to someone who will appreciate them.

The first print is by Yoshitoshi and is from the "100 Aspects of the Moon" series. The next one looks like Himeji Castle by Hiroshi Yoshida.

Value would vary rather widely depending on when they were printed, their present condition (are the margins trimmed for example), and, naturally, the desirability of the actual image.

Both of these are worthwhile, but I would suggest you take them to a local print dealer (one who deals in JAPANESE prints)and get a verbal appraisal.

These guys are in Chicago. Maybe drop them an email and see if they're interested in looking at what you have?

Next time in Chicago, look in telephone book yellow page for antiques, you find at least one famous auction house has branch there, perhaps listed under L. Hindman gallery. Besides that one, there has been no really knowledgeable oriental antiques dealer there more than 50 years.

Good luck,
Cal
