Posted By: Hagard Sun, Jun 14, 2009 IP: 217.117.45.144

Hi,
I would have liked to learn more about this vase ( chinese or japanese, range of age, unusual pattern or common )
Thanks for your help.

Hi,
In my opinion, it looks like a fairly recent Chinese knock-off of Japanese Imari. The potting, palette and painting all seem off-key. I would imagine that any honorable Japanese potter found guilty of making such an abomination would probably opt to commit seppuku on the spot.
Regards,
Bill H.

Hi Hagard,

Your "vase" looks Japanese to me. A bit a combination of Imari and panels witch looks like Kutani - Shoza style (My impression). The blue looks very light for (older) Japanese. This makes me think of 20th.century.
About shape and function; I'm not sure it's a vase. The shape looks a bit like a spitoon to me.
I'll wait with you for other opinions.

regards,

Arjan
