Subject:brass inlaid wooden box...anyone know it's use?
Posted By: Al Coop Tue, Jul 07, 2009 IP: 99.140.223.123

I sent these photos about a month ago and they were never posted. Perhaps they were lost. I believe this box is Chinese and the design, on the lid, may be a stylized "double happiness" symbol used in traditional Chinese weddings. Does anyone recognize the style of box or symbol? The box belonged to my grandparents so it's been in the family for 60-70 years.

Thanks

Your post not lost. See response at link.

Brass not inlaid, is nailed on.

You are right about symbol, but not only for wedding.

Box for curios, perhaps jewelry, any small plunder. Many many of these made.

Good luck,
Cal
