Subject:Early Chinese? blue & white box
Posted By: David Viner Tue, Nov 10, 2009 IP: 82.4.183.7

Hi there, I bought this interesting ceramic box at the weekend for 2 at a garage sale (see pictures). It looks pretty old and is very similar to ones I've seen from the Hoi An shipwreck, though there's no signs of it ever having been submerged. Is it an early chinese piece, and if so is it valuable?
Any information on this would be much appreciated.
Regards,
David.

Hi David.

I've seen similar pieces like this one, crackled glaze, decorative and always made in Macau from the 1920's to date.

This one is copying the HoiAn pieces as you've already spotted.

I suspect this has very little age...Still for 2 can't complain!

Gary.

Thanks Gary, at least I've got something to keep my loose change in then.
Regards,
David.
