Subject:Trying to identify tea set. Please help with markings..
Posted By: jayc Thu, Feb 04, 2010 IP: 99.140.198.102

Hello, it's been a while. This cup represents a tea set that my wife picked up recently. I believe it's modern but it's still very delicate and beautiful porcelain. Does anyone recognize the mark? Is it Chinese...or Japanese...?

Any help would be much appreciated. Thank You!

JayC

I thought maybe someone could recognize the style or type of porcelain. I've included a couple of additional photos to illustrate the tranluscency of the porcelain...it's pretty neat! I'm not sure how they did the raised, (I believe they're lotus), flowers and leaves. There are 5 cups and each one is slightly different...which indicates they had to be hand done. The pot is not as thin or translucent. It has a bamboo handle if that's of any importance.

You say "There are 5 cups and each one is slightly different...which indicates they had to be hand done."

Factory would have 5 different molds, put one of each type in each set.

There is no special name for good quality new porcelain. Factories production is quite automated these days with very good quality control.

More likely for wine than tea.

Good luck,
Cal

Do you know the maker? I'm trying to identify the designer/manufacturer and I'm assuming the makers' mark is identifyable...but perhaps not.

Any help is appreciated.
