Hi Everyone, I was wondering if anyone had come across fake Chinese Government Certificates for antiques. I would love to find or read some information on this.

thanks kim

If you do a search for antiques with certificates on Ebay you should be able to find pictures of some.
FYI, some people in China say that there are government experts who isssue genuine government certificates for money (this doesn't mean the item is genuine). This is second-hand information though ... believe it or not.

Fake Chinese Government certificates have been around for a long time. I can recall in the 1980's one of the Government stores in Liulichang (Beijing) removing one of the red wax seals (which mean O.K. for export, no authentication of age) and putting it on a 19th century bowl that was not approved for export.

Latterly there have been a number of certificates issued by a Government run antiques store in the Forbidden City, on pieces that are obviously modern.

I would advise you to view any certificate with suspicion, and if you have doubts, do not buy without getting a second opinion from someone who knows.
