Any help please with identifying this mark on a miniature satsuma vase.
Thanks,

Hello Dave,

I think it reads "Meizan" from Meizan studio different from Yabu Meizan. This studio produced fine quality Satsuma during the period 1880/1920.

Regards,

Arjan

Dave, the mark says 'Meizan' in an archaic character style associated with Yabu Meizan, an early 20th century studio name, although I think those marks usually include the kanji for 'Yabu' as well. Best regards, Bill H.

Looks very much like the mark for Yabu Meizan, one of the best in this field,Keith.

All my research shows Yabu Meizan to have only decorated porcelain.

Lori and others,

Please copy and paste this link: http://www.mus-his.city.osaka.jp/english_iso-8859-1/special/2005/meizan_eng.html .
On the work of Yabu Meizan, Yabu is always part of the mark. If not, as in this case, its not the work of Yabu Meizan but likely one or more potters with a Meizan sur-or art name from Meizan studio. Yabu worked in Osaka and the Meizan studio was (as far as I know) in Kyoto.

Regards,

Arjan
