Subject:Goddess Statue Found
Posted By: Ali Shah Sun, Feb 28, 2010 IP: 116.71.33.123

Hi all,

One of my friends found a statue of a Goddess while digging for some construction purpose in some remote area here. Upon enquiring we came to know that it is a statue of some Hindu Goddess relates to the Hindu Shahi period of 6th/7th century. Other details are as follows:

2 inches wide by 3 inches tall
Looks like a statue of Goddess Durga or Goddess Laxmi
Sitting in Samadhi (meditation)
Having 4 hands
In two of her hands holding mace or other traditional weapon of olden times
Seated on the lion
Snake folded over her neck
Metal based on copper

Can you tell what should be the value of this statue? Where to find buyers for that particular historical statue?

Looks perfectly like a small sitting Buddha figure to me.

Dear Ali Shah

You are in Pakistan, just cross boarder from India where the images of Lord Shiva is everywhere.

This statue was made of brass with 20th century style of Lord Shiva, and can be found anywhere in today market around South East Asia where Hindu people are. With or without aging patina and or brand new look knock-out from mold.

It could be old, but not ancient. I have no idea about the value because this type of Lord Shiva figurine is still available in the market.

Have fun
Anita
