Subject:Need help with carved hornbill ivory

If a piece of carved hornbill, circa 1900, is already in the United States, can it be exported? If so, how?

Hornbill is not elephant, therefore you can export it freely, no problem.

More things than just elephant may raise bells and whistles with customs, etc. and various birds are included. If there is any question, ALWAYS ASK FIRST of the appropriate offices and don't trust casual recollections. They may be made in good faith but not always take into account changes in regs, inforcement, etc..

First, it depends on the species of hornbill. Second, if it is one of the CITES listed species, the only way to export it is illeaglly.

Use Google to search for information. "CITES hornbill" brings up some useful pages.

Stan
