Subject:Identify mark + scene on Meiji bronze censer
Posted By: Debbie Fri, Apr 09, 2010 IP: 216.223.236.227

Appreciate help identifying the mark and one scene on Meiji era bronze censer. The scene features a man at right, standing, holding a sword behind his back. On the left, the other is crouching, holding away a small bag at left.
I am unfamiliar with the objects shown on the ground and behind the person at left.

Could you post a more detailed and vertical placed image of the seal in order to decipher the characters?

Thank you, I hope these are better. I've posted 2 orientations, not certain which is correct.

The mark reads "Shokaken chu kore" (casted by Shokaken). Shokaken was a well known firm specialized in bronze koro censers, early Meiji period.

Guy.
