Hello Joe,

This looks like Japanese Imari, Meiji period.

I'm guessing this one possibly to be a modern Chinese fake of Japanese Imari. Most common late-Meiji Imari-palette export ware had its naive moments but still managed to achieve a mostly uncluttered consistency. There's a noticeable inconsistency in quality of decoration among various parts of the piece. I suspect it may come from the use of hand coloring over decals on some areas and attempts at free-hand art elsewhere by someone without training. Not very nice of them to halve the Ho Ho bird's cartouche in any event.
Best regards,
Bill H.

I carefully wrote "this looks like.....". Bill H's suggestion of a Chinese fake could be a good explanation of my doubts.

Arjan
