Subject:Please help identify this 4 panel byobu
Posted By: Dom Z. Tue, Jul 20, 2010 IP: 67.83.198.71

I'm trying to aquire as much info as is possible about this painting. I'm particularly interested in finding out what the symbol and the 2 red marks are, and(of course)it's overall worth.

On a bizzare sort of side note, several people have mentioned that this image is actually upside down.(?!) Anyone have any thoughts/opinions on that?

not upside down, the characters are the artist's name (not sure of the Japanese pronunciation though) and the seals are also of the artist, though too small in the picture to make out. Looks of decent quality, but not particularly old or rare.

Thanks for the info, rat.

Would it be outside the relm of possibility that this piece is from the 40's-50's? Do you think 8K is too much for this? Lastly, can you(or anyone) recommend a reputable apraiser on the NYC area? Thank you in advance.

i'm not qualified to offer an opinion, sorry, but my hunch is that this is not from the 1950s.

Hmmm. Interesting. Thank you very much for taking the time to answer. I sincerely appreciate it.

Anyone else care to share any info/comments?

I saw something like this at an auction with online participation recently. The estimate was about $400 as I recall. I don't know the actual sell price.

Cheers,
Stan
