Subject:porcelain bowl help please

This porcelain bowl is quite large, about 26cm across. The blue is underglaze and the colours are enamelled. I wondered if it might be Japanese? Any comments would be welcome, thank you.

The bowl definitely is Japanese in my opinion with a mark that seems to be a variant of the 'Fuku' (good fortune) character.

Decoration of this sort seems to fit in with what I've seen ascribed to Kutani wares made in the ancient style from the Daishoji kiln area, an old feudal domain which has a ceramics-making history dating back to the 17th century. Many such wares that perpetuated ancient patterns, like the turnip or radish bowls seen in my images below, were made in the late 19th to early 20th century, so are antiques in their own right at this point. I've also included a link below to additional information.

I hope expert collectors out there speak up if I'm on the wrong track with my opinion here. Japanese wares aren't the main focus of my collecting.

Best regards,

Bill H.

Hello Jessica,

A nice bowl you have. This looks Japanese indeed and the mark looks like a kind of Hizen mark. My guess for a dating would be: late Edo / mid 19th. century.

Regards,

Arjan
