Subject:ivory ? vase

i dont no 2 much about this vase CARVED DECORATED IVORY CHINESE VASE W/ELEPHANTS size 12" HIGH 7 1/2 WIDE 9" DEPTH. MAY be from the meiji period i would like some help with this

It's difficult to tell from the size of the image but this vase may be a resin casting. Look closely at the surface with a magnifying glass and see if you can spot the small bubble bursts that usually are found on such pieces. If it is real ivory, you should be able to see the natural grain in it.

Hello Leeanne,

The picture itself is a little bit to small to make any judgement but I suppose your vase looks about this (see enclosed pictures. Only this one stands in my garden and (normally) has flowers in it. The vase isn't old and not made from ivory. Its (rather)modern and made of resin.

ps. the piece is probably Chinese indeed but Meiji is a Japanese period.

thank you very much will pass this on to the father inlaw it is exactly the same as that vase it thought it was not ivory and yes it does have bubble bursts running up and down it but still the same very nice thanks leeanne x

Hello! The people on the vase looks Chinese to me. Probably vase carved from a tusk refer to a size.
