Dear Roger,

This is a Japanese "Satsuma" Incense burner.. 19th century. It is very nice.

Best regards

Kasem

Hi Roger,

You're right about the age, I think . Second half 19th. century would be my guess and I wouldn't feel sad with such a gift, I like it very much. It looks likes the lid has been broken and I think it deserves a bit better restauration. A pity you couldn't post a better picture of the mark because I can't make anything out of it. Some more detailpictures of the panels would be nice too.
Last but not least; Your vase -which has holes in the lid- is probably a koro (insence burner) and is Japanese Satsuma and from Kyoto, I think.

Regards,

Arjan
