Subject:Help identify this please / I assume it is a copy
Posted By: Geoffrey Jackson Thu, Nov 25, 2010 IP: 114.74.235.90

Hi; thanks in advance for any help. I've recently discovered a bit of a liking for Chinese pottery.

I got this from a thrift shop today for A$10. I assume it is a copy of some period piece & that it is sometime mid to late last century. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks, Geoff.

Hello Geoffrey,

It isn't really a copy but just not very old I think.
They started making these kind of ware (cracled with brown etched parts and marks) during the quangxu period and probably still do. The mark reads "Chenghua nian zhi". These ware is a bit hard to date because it didn't changed much in time but the enamels looks thin and the colors more modern which make me think it's 50 years as oldest.

Regards,

Arjan
