Posted By: Brian Okabayashi Fri, Dec 03, 2010 Probably jadeite and no earlier than mid-20th Century. If large in size it could still be worth several hundred dollars or more. |

Posted By: EK Mon, Dec 06, 2010 Is there a standard price for jade as there is for gold? Let's say mediocre jade, regular, good, outstanding as in 10K, 14K, 18K and 24k? Moreover can a bad carving be refashioned, recarved into another object as it were "raw material"? I see prices of stones all over the place. It's rather confusing. |

Posted By: Ernest Wilhelm Mon, Dec 06, 2010 Yes, Jade can go from lousy/unwanted to superb in quality. My experience has shown that you buy what you see, and that is as good as it gets. Rarely does one try to get a carving re-shaped, and then only if you know the carver, and you are willing to pay good money. |

Subject:Jade?
Posted By: Bill Fri, Dec 03, 2010 Don't make any offer because you will regret it! It does not look like jade at all, its shiny surface almost makes it look like ceramic. How big is it? If it is pretty big, then its chance of being made of jade is almost NIL. There are simply not too many of these were made of jade or are old. Most are tourist pieces that were made of soft stones, sold for high prices, to unexpected tourists. |

Posted By: EK Sat, Dec 04, 2010 The posting says it's cold, heavy, shiny and the color between green and white. Owner says it's 5 inches tall and very chunky and heavy. Doesn't it look carved? I'm afraid it does not look like ceramic but I could be wrong. I like it...do you? |

Posted By: Bill Sat, Dec 04, 2010 Your pictures are simply too small and not detailed enough to be able to tell what it was made of. I am surprised in not seeing a pair of them. If it was five inches tall, the probability of it being made of jade is less than 5%. If the piece is cheap, then may be you should buy it since it is your money and you should enjoy it. Good luck. |
