Subject:Chinese Dishes?
Posted By: Marvin Sun, Dec 05, 2010 IP: 68.191.15.19

Hello,
We have had these dishes in our family for decades originally inherited from a relative. I am trying to determine their time period and any possible info on them based on these photos. They have markings on the bottom of which I have included a photo. thank You for any help.

Hello Marvin,

My post of yesterday seems to be lost (otherwise this one can be deleted) so I give it another try.

You have some very nice dishes but they aren't Chinese. These are Japanese Hizen porcelain dishes. The mark was in use on Hizen ware before Meiji period (pre 1870)so we can date them to the Edo period. I can see a few spots on the back but they looks more like firing faults rather then spurmarks which makes me think about a dating of the fist half 19th. Century (late Edo).

Regards,

Arjan
