Subject:Table value
Posted By: Brad A Thu, Dec 09, 2010 IP: 69.125.253.157

My Mother-in-law asked me to find an approx. value for her table purchased in 1951 in Japan by her father, an Army Colonel in occupied Japan. It's 48 x24 x 14, and appears to be teak. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Brad,

I believe a teak table of mid-20th century vintage in good condition probably would warrant a retail asking price of US$400-500.

I'm not much of a furniture savant, but I've bought my share of it from US military exchange outlets around Asia. Teak isn't grown in Japan, which suggests to me that this table has very little possibility of being a traditional Japanese antique. However, teak has been widely used over the years in furniture made for sale in the military exchange system.

Best regards,

Bill H.
