Posted By: Eddie Tue, Dec 28, 2010 IP: 66.190.211.82

Can anyone tell me from the chop marks on my teapot rather it's old etc...There are no marks on the bottom, only the inside of lid.
Thanks

Yixing teapots are often marked on inside of lid and sometimes also elsewhere.

There have been some famous designer/potters whose marks have been faked.

Important for determining age is patina, form and beauty of execution.

If you post exact description (dimensions) and in-focus photos taken in natural light, including photo of mark and straight-on profile, someone may be able to help with assessment of when made.

Yixing pots are being made today using same clay as 350 years ago.

Good luck,
Cal

Thanks Cal.

I added some photos of the teapot and the makers mark but the mark is faint. Thanks again.

Eddie
