Posted By: rat Thu, Jan 06, 2011 this is another example of the same thing, gouache on "pith" paper, no doubt one of a dozen or so studies formerly bound in a single album, now broken up. this one's pretty good, but not great as these paintings go. condition not good good despite the admirable lack of tears, crowded composition, not a lot of varied colors, not as subtle as the best of their type. pretty though. |

However, here's a link to a video of an appraisal done on such a pith painting portfolio a few years ago on the USA edition of Antiques Roadshow. One irony of pith paintings that emerges from the clip is that while they often came in albums, their fragility makes separating the leaves and framing them individually the best method of preserving them. |
