Subject:Plate's Origin and Age
Posted By: BILAL Sat, Feb 26, 2011 IP: 182.177.214.100

When I purchased this plate, I was told that it was a Chinese, Imari (Quinlong). I have been directed to your forum now as it is a Japanese piece. Please identify it's origin, age and manufacturer.

Hello Bilal,

Yes, the piece is Japanese indeed. It has spurmarks which often indicates an earlier dating but this can be a bigger piece. Best clue (for me ) for a dating is that zipper motif and that makes me think mid 19th. century.

Arjan

Arjan,
Thanks. Your assesment/input is indeed very helpful.
Any opinion regarding manufacturer and the artist?

Hello Bilal,

I like to show you a plate of my collection which is unmarked too. I once saw a plate with the same kind of a-symmetrical decoration, the same color palette (also the 2 tones of blue and 2 tones of green) and also that moriage dots.
That plate looks like it was made by the same painter and was marked with a Hizen mark. Thats my best suggestion I think.

Regards,

Arjan
