Any information on this water vessel would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Debbie.

I see these pieces around the UK at various antique fairs along with a similar glazed 'ginger jar'.

I have a saying...

"When two or more are gathered together then they're probably fakes"

I think they're pretending to be Ming but really they're late 20th Century 'Reproductions'!

I won't mention where they place them to simulate the age!!!

Gary.

Hi Gary...thank you for your response. My aunt bought this at some village when they lived in Jakarta in 1960..no markings on it so it's probably one of those you are speaking of.

These ewers are a product of the Shiwan kilns near Canton China. Dating would be around late 19th to early 20th century. Nice collectible utilitarian wares widely exported to SE Asia.

Hi Debbie.

Well seems a difference of opinion between me and Pyro on this one!

I would tend to go with Pyro though as he will have had more experience in this area than I.

The ones that I commonly spot here are slightly different in that they not only smell badly of 'fish' but also have a lot darker bases than yours.

Maybe the S.E.Asian market has found a wanting import market here in the UK for water vessels?

Best Wishes,

Gary.
