Hello... I was wondering if anyone could tell me what type of pottery this is and the marking on the bottom. Thank you

Hi Carrie

Looks like 20th Century Japanese 'Printed' ware.

Unsure of the mark...Sorry!

Gary.

Thank you Gary...was this a common pattern?

Hello Carrie,

This pattern is very common indeed. This specific pattern (Karako-pattern) was designed by Hirado and is the best known pattern (I think) on Hirado porcelain. These playing boys, who are chasing butterflies, are in fact Chinese and not Japanese.

Regards,

Arjan
