Subject:Curiosity
Posted By: Richard Brown Mon, Apr 11, 2011 IP: 91.111.24.133

Hi, curiosity got the better of me today while I was passing the window of a charity shop. There was this ginger jar and it looked nice, anyway the attached picture is the mark on the bottom, I couldn't resist even though I was (and still am) more than a bit dubious of its origin. So a couple of quid changed hands and I'm just wondering what I've bought? Any suggestions on the mark?

Mark read top to bottom then left to right, Qian Long nian zhi (Qianlong reign made) for Qianlong reign (1736-1795) of Qing Dynasty.

Since it read left to right instead of right to left was poorly stamped or printed on item last half 20th century.

Good luck,
Cal

Hi Richard

This sort of stamped 'Qianlong' mark tends to be on pieces from the 20th Century.

Qianlong was the name of the Chinese Emperor between 1736-1795.

Gary.
