Subject:wooden jewerly box
Posted By: tracey Wed, Apr 27, 2011 IP: 71.174.177.89

Hi, does anyone have any info on my jewerly box. Is this jade on top of box? Any other information would be appreciated? Thank you!

The box looks old, but the white stone on top is most likely Serpentine, softer than Jade. Scratch test will tell: Take a strong needle, and make a 2-3 mm scratch and see if it is white or black.

Hi Ernest,

I did the scratch test and it didn't come out any color? Also the stone is more of a light almost translucent green. You mentioned that the box looks old. Would you be able to put a date on it? I greatly appreciate your time and expertise.

Just in case that it is Jade, it could have been a replacement, as this carving doesn't show age, it is a rather sloppy carving. I cannot tell the age of the box.
