Subject:Big Old Bowl
Posted By: Ron Tue, May 24, 2011 IP: 98.176.202.196 When I got this it was really, really, really filthy. It's about 11.5 x 5 inches. Looks like it was a daily use bowl, so does it just look old because it was used a lot or is it actually old? |

Posted By: Ron Wed, May 25, 2011 Well, I went sleuthing on the Internet. I also recently got a big 13-inch plate, a medium size jar and a small bowl that look similar in style and age to this big plate. From what I can figure, it appears to be Swatow export ware from the Zhao Zhou kilns. Maybe late Ming-early Ching? All of them were simple in design with a lot of wear but no major damage. And they were CHEAP. Anyway, I think they are cool...whatever they are. |

Subject:Big Old Plate
Posted By: Ron Thu, May 26, 2011 I figured I might as well post an image of the big old plate I got as well. It looks to have two edge repairs. It's 13 inches in diameter. I got it at the same place as the bowl. So "kitchen qing" is the term. Thanks again. |

Posted By: PyroManiac Sun, May 29, 2011 Actually this large dish is older. It is still of a South Chinese manufacture but dates to the 17th century. Possible place of manufacture is the Anxi kilns. Still falls under the general category of kitchan Qing though. Widely exported to South East Asia. |
