Subject:Chang-dai chien Hand Painted Plate - Need Information
Posted By: Mary Wed, May 25, 2011 IP: 76.20.18.186

Hello I have aquired a beautiful hand painted plate done by Chang Dai Chien - I have never seen him do paintings on plates before which has peaked my curiousity - The back of the piece is marked Made in Taiwan - Rep. of China - Not for Resale. Im hoping someone can translate the writing for me to perhaps find out its date and title - and also why its marked on the back Not for Resale. Thank you for any help someone can provide.

Hi Mary

Not wanting to worry you but the only time I have ever seen the term 'Not for Resale' in the UK is on FREE gifts or promotions!

Perhaps your plate is something similar? Maybe celebrating the artist's life in someway?

Hope this may help.

Gary.

HI Gary - Yes you are 100% correct - I did just find out yesturday that the plate is NOT handpainted its actually a decal - and was done as a promotional thing for an art show to be given to big donators to a particular museum - it turns out the event never took place - and in turn there was a big chang collector who donated them to local california museums - so the plate itself was never even painted by chang - but ty for "validating" what I had orig thought - Mary =)
