Subject:Archaic jade belt

I have a white jade, semi translucent 32 piece belt. Actually I think two belts because of two buckles. Just curious to see what people thought of the age, quality etc. I believe to be the Han dynasty. Sorry my pictures are not the best, due to the size restrictions on here. They are 2"x1" and have holes for them to be sewn on a cloth belt

I just wonder what was done to them. They definitely do not look like ancient pieces, rather the opposite.Sorry to disappoint you

Yeah, the pictures are not any good. I had them looked at by an auction house appraiser online and he said their probably han dynasty.

Sorry again. After looking close up, I realize that those are new and poorly carved. Maybe acid was used, maybe something was burned. I also do not believe that it is Jade... a scratch test will show a white line.

If that appraiser tells you that it is HAN, run, and let him sell it for you !!

The rust colored areas are just that, rust,
otherwise known as iron oxide. There is a
possibility that the iron oxide rose to the
surface of the jade, and with nearby moisture
formed this color. Jade will sometimes be
dropped into a bucket of rusty nails in order to
leach the rust onto the jade and make it appear
old.Get a 10 powered loupe and look closely for
raised areas of blackish iron hematite. A stain
could have been used to create the iron color,
but if you find raised hematite cones, then you
know that the color is real. These hematite
deposits can form only after an extended period
of the jade being buried or in contact with
moisture.

Yes, I agree. I think it is rust. I had another jade appraiser look at it and say the same thing. I believe it to be buried for a long time and aquire the rust color. I had another jade appraiser look and agree. There was no burning or acid involved in the making of the rust color. I know people on here think everything is fake except theirs so I take it with a grain of salt. Just wanted to put it out there and see what people thought. I will send you better pictures of the jade so you can see the holes drilled to attach to the belt, etc.

Chris
This link will show you an ancient carving. Compare it to your material, This way you learn to differentiate between modern and ancient Stone surfaces.
Good luck
