Subject:Artemisia Leaf Mark
Posted By: George Ingraham Sun, Jun 05, 2011 IP: 75.244.185.216

I have read that the leaf mark indicates the Kangxi period.

I know absolutely nothihg about collecting procelain, and am curious if this bottle appears to be the age that the mark suggests.

The bottle looks old to me, but with all the reproductions out there, I have no way of knowing for sure and am thinking about adding this as a first porcelain bottle to my collection .

Have been many comments these boards regarding adding colored washes and grime to items to make look old, or to make look like believed item from Qing or Ming dynasty.

Is no intrinsic reason why more surface than exposed unglased part of porcelain would have orange-ish color, and look like foot of bottle has had color added.

Yes artemisia leaf sometimes used Kangxi period, but could easily be added to new-made piece. Note veins in leaf wrong direction.

Good luck,
Cal
