Hi,

I am looking to find the period and any other information on this unidentified piece. I am told that the text on the inside of the box and lid is extremely rare.

What you have here is a tomb epitaph. The calligraphy done by shallow drilling will record the details of the deceased. When/where born. Wife/children names. When deceased. Sometimes more details about the person's life is recorded. A very good indication of the age of the porcelain revealed by date of death. Can't read the writing but judging from the porcelain should be around mid 19th century.

Pyromaniac is quite right in what he says.
The year given is Guangxu 23, which corresponds to 1897.
