Subject:identifying 2 chinese brush paintings
Posted By: Lesley Ball Mon, Jun 20, 2011 IP: 86.132.85.21 Hi, can anyone identify the artists of the attached pictures. I think they are two different people although both were obviously framed at the same time by MAN FONG, of Wellington Street, Hong Kong. |

Posted By: rat Fri, Jun 24, 2011 first one reads "ling ke" but this is the mandarin pronunciation of these characters; the artist may be a cantonese speaker if it comes from HK. this is a given name in any case, the surname is not specified. I saw the photo of the entire image that you posted elsewhere, I think this is primarily of decorative intent rather than "fine art" |

Posted By: rat Wed, Jun 29, 2011 the other one is indeed after Li Keran's water buffalos but I don't recognize the painter's name. at least he was honest enough to sign it under his own name! |

Posted By: lesley Thu, Jun 30, 2011 Yes indeed! I have ,however, had some success with the inscriptions. The water buffalo are by an artist of no great repute (apparently) called Wang Shijie. The other is signed Song Yinke, who does have some following. Personally, I prefer the water buffalo. |
