Subject:Asian inlaid jade cabinet
Posted By: Patrick Norton Tue, Jun 21, 2011 IP: 99.93.51.139 Got this older cabinet with some inlaid items into a black slate; all the black areas are like chalkboard slate. Unknown maker, even bottoms of drawers are slate, knapp joint on edges. Seen black painted wood but this one is heavy chalkboard slate. Any clue as to origin or era of these? Carved artwork in gold, birds and trees. |

Posted By: Patrick Norton Mon, Jun 27, 2011 Did a scratch test both with needle and a pocket knife; hard stone does not scratch. Not sure what to make of this item, not the black synthetic polymer painted furniture with plastic mother of pearl and gold emamel paint that you see everywhere, I got those also. This one is hard chalkboard type of black lacquer. Even the painting on it seems like a gold dust lacquer? Any clue as to origin or age? |

Posted By: Patrick Norton Tue, Jun 28, 2011 Put a lot more pressure and all it seems to do is take the dirt off the stone, no scratch, stone is white? Put a link to my flickr photos on the eBay community under Antiques. The responce said made in Hong Kong 1970 mass produced for tourism? Liquor cabinet? Check item 220483917965 and 270414877606 |

Posted By: Ernest Wilhelm Wed, Jun 29, 2011 In this case you may have to use a magnifying glass, which I now believe will show a white scratch, as a black scratch would be visible to the naked eye. My field is Jade, not furniture. Someone else may be able to advise. |
