Subject:Asian inlaid nacre
Posted By: Patrick Norton Fri, Jun 24, 2011 IP: 99.98.37.196 I have several "black lacquer" asian pieces of furniture; they all seem to be gold color paint over black synthetic polymer paint with plastic made to look like nacre, mother of pearl? Looking on the internet they seem to be calling all these antique black lacquer items? Just thinking my other cabinet I listed might be real raw "black lacquer" and feels and looks like black slate. Are these synthetic polymer paint ones antique too? |

Posted By: Patrick Norton Wed, Jun 29, 2011 I was wrong, not gold color paint but decals that have a clear synthetic polymer painted over them. With a magnifying glass you can see the edge of stick on decals. Only gold painted areas are the bottom of legs. Even has plastic knobs on drawers, felt lined. Seems everywhere I look they are calling these items for sale as Antique black lacquer. Thinking they made a mistake, should read new antiqued cabinets with plastic shells on eBay? Antique thick nacre mollusks shells; yeah right? |
