Subject:Old Inkwell
Posted By: Kurt Karlsson Mon, Jul 04, 2011 IP: 99.242.136.211

Hello,

I found this inkwell 55 years ago, when I was A kid. I always wondered

what the writting inside the lid and on the bottom meant, and how old. I hope that

someone can translate it. The inkwell seems heavy, but has never tarnished,

and it does not hold onto a magnet.

Thank You, Kurt Karlsson.

second photo says that the manufacturer was a Wu Niaoxiang (?) on Daxin (great and new) Street, Guangzhou (aka Canton). third photo is upside down, says something about reworked metal I believe in the vertical cartouche. no date given, perhaps republic? (1911-1949) someone else will be surer than I am

Hi Kurt,

Try looking at old Opium pipes - I think it is part of an opium pipe and not an ink-well.

Best
JJ
