Subject:YiXing Tea Pots
Posted By: Dan E. Tue, Aug 09, 2011 IP: 71.89.116.16

Hi All,

On the second day of the estate sale I purchased these. I didn't know what they were at first but after a little searching I found some info. Are the characters actual or representational? The one pot has a pumpkin stem that the other has a silver fitter ring around the lid and a silver tip on the spout. The handle has been repaired on the one teapot. Would love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks, Dan E.

The second picture, the teapot with a brass rim and spout is originated from Bangkok, Thailand. The teapot was order from China and later the brass was added for Thai market. Date back around mid Rattanakosin, 120 years old. Normally selling for $1,000-$1,200.

good luck,

The top pot is one of a group made in the same style. Small, pear shaped with a double line partition with an inscription above. All the examples I have seen have the same inscription which says some along the lines of "holds little more than a spoon". What differs on each is the knop. I have in my collection pots with a pine, a frog, a peach and a leaping fish. I am sure there are more. Not all have the same signature. Yours says Yi Gong, one of mine has Mengchen another with a four character seal. Interesting pots and usually beautifully modeled.
