Subject:Old Chinese vase
Posted By: Mike Morphet Sat, Aug 27, 2011 IP: 174.89.62.226

Good evening,

We have really enjoyed perusing your forum and are very eager to learn more about our dear little vase.

May I tell you it stands approximately 9" tall and 4.5" wide in the middle area.

It appears to made of copper or bronze and has the most ornate and elaborate design thereon. Two blue dragons travel around the centre area.

The colours are predominantly blues, greens and turquoise.

This vase has been in our Lancashire family for ages.

No maker's marks are visible.

Any information on this piece would be so greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Michael Morphet

Mike, your photos didn't upload for some reason. Usually this issue occurs because the pixel density surpases 99 kb. If you don't have a photo editing program, sometimes you can try sending the pix to yourself by an email program with an automatic reduction feature.

Good luck,

Bill H.

Cloisonne isn't a large part of my collection, but I own a few pieces in a black-ground version of this dragon pattern and have found it dated by a number of dealers to the late Qing-to-Republic era. Here's a link to another vase in a somewhat similar pattern for comparison. Also I've resized your vase image and uploaded it below. No charge for photo-editing the first time. :)

Best regards,

Bill H.
