Subject:Translation of writing on bottom of vase
Posted By: MJT Tue, Sep 13, 2011 IP: 71.74.228.246 We have what I would call an oriental vase (kind of looks like an Aladdins lamp) that has writing on the bottom - all in Chinese/Japanese. I have no idea. This piece belonged to a great aunt of mine who insisted it was of value. I am trying to get a decent photo of the piece so I can post it to see if anyone knows about it. But in the meantime can anyone tell me what it says on the bottom? I am attaching a photo which I know is somewhat out of focus but hope someone can help me. Thank you so much.

Posted By: Bill H Wed, Sep 14, 2011 It says made by Shimamura. Very little known about them because nobody ever shows anything but the bottom of their wares...well almost.

Posted By: rat Wed, Sep 14, 2011 looks like a Japanese maker's mark: Shiamura I think. pictures of the object itself will help determine whether it's genuine or of value.
