Subject:Chinese Plate with signature

Hi,
Could any expert advise on Chinese plate with signature. Is this Ge porcelain.

When the center photo is flipped right 90 degrees, the incised character resembles 'Jade' (Yu). Whether I'm correct or not depends on whether the small gouge to the right of the stained portion is part of the mark or later damage. If it is the latter case, then sans the gouge the character resembles 'Wang', a surname.

Good luck,

Bill H.

Hi Bill,

Thanks for the insights. Could you enlighten me as to which period is this plate from..and is it Ge porcelain. Thanks.

The crackle seems to fit the general description of ge wares, but the foot shows a neat pattern of spur marks that isn't consistent with what I recall seeing. However, having never owned or seriously studied any Ge or related Guan wares, I would defer to others for substantive opinions here.

Best regards,

Bill H.

This is a Ge - type dish from the mid Qing dynasty, late 18thC, possibly early 19thC. You should find that the stilt marks, imitating Song dynasty Ge wares have been painted on. Similar pieces have been dated to Qianlong & Jiaqing.
