It's difficult to come to any sort of comprehensive opinion concerning your charger from the fragmentary snapshots, but taking them in toto to represent the tip of the iceberg, then assuming the charger to be an authentic antique in perfect condition that dates to the late Meiji Period, it would be worth at least US$500-US750 in my part of Florida, USA. The price has been falling, because with the economic depression, it seems like everybody and their brothers have something like it to sell these days.

Good luck,

Bill H.

Hi all,

I would even go for a bit earlier dating.
That (gold in red) zipper motif was populair during the late Edo. The color palette with light blue, two tones of green and orange was also used during the mid 19th. century. (see also the work of Zoshuntei).

Regards,

Arjan

Arjan, I did do some research on Zoshuntei (Hisatomi Yojibei Masayasu) and was able to find a few pieces he had done, that were very similiar to mine. As you had mentioned, the zipper motif design, and also the shape of the leaves and the plants behind rocks (with the same coloring), were popular in many of his pieces, as well. Thank you again.
