Subject:Kutani Tea Pots( with dragons)
Posted By: Rachel Wed, Nov 30, 2011 IP: 99.70.111.77

Can someone tell me anything about these pieces?

I have several more pieces, tea cups, saucers and plates.

Thanks!

Your pieces combine low-relief decoration somewhat imitating "slip-trailed dragon ware" with figural decoration somewhat imitating Kyoto-area kilns' 20th-century imitations of Satsuma-style decoration.

I'd say quite recently made. You can find something somewhat similar, a little less new, if you do web search for Chinese porcelain under brand name "Royal Satsuma."

Good luck,
Cal

Hi Rachel, your tea & coffee set is Japanese Nagoya export porcelain, 1920 - 1940 pre World War II, made by a Kutani maker, most of these were decorated near the Nagoya port for its easy transportation for the export. Very decorative commercial ware to entertain foreign markets. Best Regards, Emiko

Emiko, I had a feeling it was from around that time frame, I just couldn't find any info on it.

Thanks for the info!
