Subject:Any clue?
Posted By: Patrick Norton Wed, Dec 28, 2011 IP: 108.75.98.26 Got this item from an estate sale and it is a life size head, but somewhere in its life the nose was busted off and the top of the head and around the base looks like a case of long heavy rain; but that is a lot of rain to do this to a rock? Even talc would take a long time to have rain cause this. Its heavy like a concrete statue. Any clue what these are? |

Posted By: Bill H Thu, Dec 29, 2011 It appears as if someone might have been attempting to create a stone version of a Buddhistic carved wood bust that had been buried upside down in a termite mound in order to 'age' it. Such 'wormage' patterns are often found naturally on the bases of Burmese wood carvings. However, acid rain eats away at alabaster and other calcite stones in a much different manner, giving them a sandblasted look on exposed surfaces. |

Posted By: Patrick Norton Fri, Dec 30, 2011 Thanks Bill, not sure what happened to it. Not very flat on the bottom and kind of an unbalanced sculpture, like it was broken off a larger life size yard statue. Obviously not in mint condition anymore. There is evidence of rock eating bugs with holes burrowed into the stone. More photos, not sure how to fake this one? |
