Subject:Oriental Vase
Posted By: Brad Wed, Jan 04, 2012 IP: 66.66.152.74

My late grandmother's vase, I have no background and trying to determine if it is worth anything. No markings tht I can find. Any information would be appreciated.

The vase is Japanese from the late Meiji period (1868-1912) in a style associated with studios in Kyoto. Such pieces often are mistakenly called Satsuma for being made of a similar type of stoneware.

If lid and body are both free of damage or serious wear, the vase would merit a retail price of between US$300-$400 in many galleries, perhaps a bit more in shops located in areas that attract substantial Japanese tourism.

Best regards,

Bill H.

Hi Brad,

This vase is Japanese and probably Satsuma(like) ware made in Kyoto during the Meiji period. I suppose it has a crackled surface?

Regards,

Arjan
